Job Description

Reports to: Inflight Operations Standards Manager (IOSM)

This position is responsible for upholding Safety Management System (SMS), cabin safety standards, Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) and ensure safety standards for Cathay Pacific (CX) are in compliance of Hong Kong and international regulatory bodies.

Provide advice, guidance and support to Inflight Operations Standards Manager (IOSM), Head of Inflight Customer Service & Operations (HOICS&O) and operational management within Inflight Service Delivery department (ISD) on cabin safety issues, and enable them to improve operational system, processes and safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Act as the ISD Operational Risk Coordinator and Subject Matter Expert in cabin safety
  2. Support IOSM and HOICS&O to implement SMS in managing Cabin Safety
    • Safety Objectives and Performance Targets
      • Monitor safety performance by reviewing cabin reports and statistics to identify any trends and to ensure they are properly followed up 
      • Review safety standards and procedures regularly
      • Conduct benchmarking studies and projects to ensure continuous improvement
      • Act as a secretary and full member of Joint Cabin Safety Action Group (CSAG), perform data analysis and present analytical outputs
      • Follow up with the action items raised from different safety meetings when required
    • Safety Promotion
      • Decide the types of safety promotion required
      • Develop the action plan to support various safety promotion campaign 
      • To ensure the communication materials are submitted in a timely manner
    • Safety Communications
      • Compile and publish Safety related articles, including Notice to Cabin Crew (NTCC)  and Cabin Crew Newsletter (CCNL)
      • Answer enquiries from cabin crew/other departments on cabin safety related matters
    • Safety Risk Assessment
      • Carry out safety risk assessment with relevant stakeholders as required
      • Review risk assessment regularly
      • Maintain CSAG Risk Assessment in Safety Risk Management Portal (SRMP) 
    • Safety Auditing
      • Ensure ISD is in compliance of all cabin safety-related regulations and standards 
      • Review and update safety related manuals and document for the purpose of audit
    • Safety Investigation
      • Support Group Safety & Operational Risk Management (GSORM) for safety investigation
      • Implement GSORM’s recommended actions as required
    • Crew Resource Management (CRM) training
      • Meet annually with TLA and GSORM HF to evaluate CRM training programme
      • To provide safety related cases as part of training materials
  3. Responsible for Cabin Crew OH&S-related matters and implement OH&S programmes for Cabin Crew
  4. Act as a full member of Security Action Group (SECAG)
  5. Act as a full member of Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness Action Group (OHSWAG)
  6. Representative of CX ISD in Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) Cabin Safety Working Group and Air China Cabin Safety Seminar
  7. Deputise for the IOSM when required
  8. Maintain Certificate of Competency (COC) in Cabin Crew Management Flying Programme
Requirements

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience, ideally in developing, implementing or closely working in a Safety Management Systems and/or OH&S role
  • University graduate
  • Experience in aviation, safety, OH&S or related discipline desirable
  • Good analytical ability and action oriented
  • Knowledge on data analytics, auditing and compliance
  • Have good understanding of standards operations procedures
  • Extensive knowledge on cabin safety, OH&S and risk assessment
  • Detail oriented, high quality awareness with accuracy and efficiency
  • Able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels effectively
  • Excellent command of English (both spoken and written)
  • A good command of written and spoken Chinese (including Mandarin) would be highly regarded
  • Experience as a Cabin Crew or has Cabin Crew background is an advantage
