Team Overview

United Airlines’ Operations Analysis department is responsible for operational factors to ensure customer satisfaction and network reliability- completed flights that depart and arrive on time. The key objectives are to improve operating performance and customer experience by conducting analyses on factors which include flight and taxi times, customer journey, Net promoter score, irregular operations, air traffic control, aircraft maintenance and routing, ground time, staffing, airport congestion and construction etc.

Job overview and responsibilities

The team is currently looking for a well-rounded individual who has a passion for data and analytics with the willingness to dig deep into details and assess the big picture. This entry level role will support the Operations Analysis group in United's Chicago headquarters by gathering data, conducting analyses, verifying reports and assist in ad-hoc decision support. Excellent time management and communication skills are keys to success in this role as the role requires multi-tasking on several initiatives simultaneously.

  • Create and modify reports – take ownership of reporting structure and metrics in order to clearly and effectively communicate relevant information to decision makers. Assist in ad-hoc decision support and scenario analyses.
  • Build predictive models and analyze results for dissemination of insights to United leadership. Gather and organize data from various sources and develop frameworks that assist with decision making.
  • Design meaningful metrics that indicate operational health and help to take informed operational decisions to maximize customer experience.
  • Prepare presentations for United leadership and external stakeholders    
     

This position is offered on local terms and conditions.  Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded.

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Very strong problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Understanding of data structures, relationships, and efficient transformations
  • Knowledge and application of data visualization best practices
  • Familiarity with writing complex queries and procedures using both traditional and modern technologies/languages (i.e. SQL, Python, Spark, etc.)
  • Data visualization skills using one or more reporting tools (i.e., Spotfire, Tableau, etc.) to produce meaningful, elegant dashboards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn what a business team does, then design a data/technology solution that connects business processes with quantifiable outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be adept at juggling several projects and initiatives simultaneously through appropriate prioritization

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative field like Math, Statistics, Analytics, Operations Research etc. and/or MBA 
  • 1-2 years analysis experience preferred 
  • Familiarity with various parts of the data ecosystem (acquisition, engineering, storage, management, analysis, visualization, and deployment) preferred
  • Exposure to statistical and analytical methods preferred
  • Experience with JavaScript, D3, HTML, CSS / front-end development
