Job Description

This is for a systems safety engineering (SE) position in the Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) team. As a member of this SEIT team, Systems Safety engineer ensures compliance with required regulations, procedures and policies with primary focus on aviation. Systems safety engineers develop, administer, and enforce regulations and standards concerning civil aviation safety, including (1) the airworthiness of aircraft and aircraft systems and (2) safety aspects of aviation facilities, equipment and procedures.

This position requires basic knowledge and skill in the selected lifecycle of propulsion engine controls and fuel system or sub-system

Job Description:

  • Development and review of systems safety requirements, preferably in Aerospace domain.
  • Support Aircraft and System Safety Analysis (ASA, SSA), Fault Hazard Assessment, & Design Assurance analysis of propulsion systems and installation, fuel systems, APU systems and installations, and engine controls and provide feedback to the program.
  • Creates Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Cause Analysis, Safety Assessment Reports, in accordance with ARP 4761 defined process and methods.
  • Perform supplier safety artifacts reviews and configuration management of safety artifacts.
  • Perform Requirements Management in DOORS.
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Coordinates with engineering functions to understand and define systems safety requirements and other specialty engineering groups.
  • Support creation of functional excellence standards and planning for future products development studies.
  • Provide detailed reports and recommendations for mitigation strategies
  • Prepare and present technical presentations. Present requirement, design and/or development revision and changes to formal change boards.
  • Participate in Safety Panel Reviews. Coordinates with engineering functions to define requirements and other specialty engineering groups.
  • Review flight documents, operational scenarios, and subsequent changes for safety impact.
  • Participate in associated technical review board meetings.
  • Provide real-time and post-flight engineering support for flight anomaly investigations.
  • Perform testing and validation to ensure system designs meet safety, operational and functional requirements.
  • Develops planning, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management.

Qualification & Skills Required

  • Bachelors Engineering degree, Preferably Electronics/Aeronautical/Electrical / Systems Engineering with up to 5-9 years / Master's degree, with up to 5-8 years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in systems safety analysis.
  • Experience in systems engineering and development process.
  • Familiarity with SAE ARP4761 and ARP4754A.
  • Domain knowledge of propulsion systems and installation, fuel systems, APU systems and installations, and engine controls are preferred.
  • Experience with FAA Part 25 and/or Part 33 certification would certainly be valued assets in this position.
  • Basic understanding of DO 254/DO178C standards is preferred.
  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering tools (CAMEO or similar)
  • Excellent research, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Experience in safety requirements development, verification and validation
  • Exposure on Systems design of Avionics LRU components is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) architecture is preferred.
  • An understanding of systems safety hazards analysis process to include the generation of hazards analysis
  • Experience in safety analysis such as FMEA, FTA and Reliability Tools is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of FAA certification and airworthiness requirements is highly desired.
  • Exposure to Systems testing knowledge.
  • Hands on Experience on IBM Rational DOORS in Requirements Management is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of systems architecture.
