Job Summary

To develop, integrate and implement technical solutions and compliance documentation compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.

To execute design work packages for Airframe business predominantly on Wing and Empennage, secondary structures related civil & military aerospace products and their components and in support of the development of existing and new products/ structures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design detail for parts and assemblies, models and 2D drawings achieving delivery to time, cost and quality.
  • Design work to create/update CATIA models and drawings.
  • Develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements within agreed programmes and timescales.
  • Perform all activities at a level of minimal supervision and support other engineers with peer-to-peer reviews.
  • To ensure design compliance by appropriate analysis in accordance with GKN internal policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Develop, implement, and check technical solutions and compliance documentation to ensure they are compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.
  • To identify and implement Lean initiatives and to encourage a culture of Continuous Improvement within the Design Office.
  • Proactively Liaise with internal customers on a day-to-day basis in order to meet external customer requirements to the correct specifications, time, cost and quality.
  • Participate in the support of Engineering continuous improvement plans and “Lean” initiatives to develop improved operating processes and procedures.
  • Interfacing with adjacent work packages or sub-assemblies.
  • To assist Lead/Senior Engineers in driving Design projects to completion on time and to budget.
  • Understand the qualification process of products, and prepare compliance documentation to internal, customer, and regulatory requirements, where applicable.
  • Follow appropriate quality management procedures for defining technical content and project reporting.

Job Qualifications

General:

  • Must possess the requisite level of engineering functional knowledge with experience of working/interfacing with other Engineering & Manf. Eng. disciplines (including customers and suppliers) in order to successfully execute tasks within the project team(s) objectives.
  • Must possess basic knowledge and understanding of the Aerospace industry and in the functional area the project/programme is responsible for (eg. Design, Analysis, EWIS, etc.) in order to successfully perform tasks in the programme.
  • Must possess a good level of technical problem solving skills.

Essential:

  • Holds relevant technical qualifications (Bachelor, Master or equivalent) or a relevant level of experience to perform the engineering tasks.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience with good knowledge of design principles and strong knowledge of aircraft 2-D and 3-D structural design.
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T and Steep knowledge of manufacturing methods.
  • Solid understanding of metallic, composite materials and properties.
  • Create drawings, instructions, specifications and documentation on equipment, devices and parts for aircraft systems.
  • Use 3D CAD modeling tools to design and improve systems meeting FAA standards and communicate with regulatory authorities for approvals.
  • Apply advanced techniques and industry best practices to the design of systems and components for commercial aircrafts.
  • Sound working knowledge of CATIA V5, Airbus PDM/PLM tools such as ENOVIA or Team Center.
  • Resolve complex issues relating to interpretation of design data.
  • Sound knowledge of Airworthiness Requirements.
  • Ability to deliver design solutions in compliance with project requirements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency.

Desirable:

  • Awareness of other functions (Operations, Production, Supplier Management).
  • Able to support budget compliance of the own activities.
  • Worked in cross-cultural teams.
  • Sound working knowledge of CATIA V5, Airbus PDM/PLM tools such as ENOVIA or Team Center.
