Job Description


Performance Design & Methods is seeking a Lead Professional Band Engineer to support and own steam turbine and combined cycle thermodynamic performance modeling and design tools. This is an exciting opportunity that blends engineering and software to develop tools that fuel the digital growth within GE Power. The role gives an opportunity to become technically skilled in power plant performance and software development. This specific opportunity is focused around the development of new physics and thermodynamics prediction methods for power plant heat balance application.

  • Advance state-of-the-art performance modeling of GE steam turbine / combined cycle products by leveraging industry best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, Software Design Patterns in C++ coding principles.
  • Expand capabilities of steady-state performance prediction tools.
  • Opportunity to make architectural design decisions and grow current software products into next generation tools.
  • Develop software ownership competencies.
  • Work with the plant team to understand product requirements and vision.
  • Be part of a multidisciplinary product team, working front and back-end systems.
  • Create automated build, test, and deployment mechanisms.
  • Develop the skills and competencies of team members. Mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Continuously improve the organizational workflow and processes.
  • Maintain code quality through best practices, unit testing and code quality automation.
  • Develop and protect the Intellectual Property rights of GE.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Strong experience of C & C++ and excellent skills on software programming languages.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in engineering tools development on turbomachinery.
  • Master's Degree / PhD in Engineering or Software from an accredited university or college.
  • 3+ years design experience in gas turbine, steam turbine or combined cycle product development or controls development.
  • 5+ years demonstrated ability and experience developing graphical user interfaces, with existing and reviewable code examples.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development practices and exposure to project management tools like Rally/Jira is a plus.
  • Familiarity with industry standard source code control software.
  • Ability to learn new programming languages quickly.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
  • Demonstrated design creativity and problem-solving capability.
  • Strong communication, organizational and mentoring skills.
