Job Description


As a Lead Flight Cargo Optimization Officer, your operational responsibility for the management of all disruptions related to shipment level connections ex Doha (Passenger and freighter flights). Optimize the cargo capacity on flights post FBL release and contribute to overall load factor by eliminating the no-fits positions. Ensure quality protection measures are applied through collaborative decision making within IOC window. Aided with advanced operational tools, conduct root cause analysis for disrupted shipment movements and provide a high level summary to the management. Together along with revenue management and IOC network control, provide input in setting short term and mid-term strategies to monitor and control shipments disrupted ex Doha.  

In this role, you will be responsible to ensure that after FBL release, all the unit positions on the flights are utilized and keep the no-fits to minimal. In event of drop of loads from the FBL due to the no-shows, low-shows, misconnections, cancellations or any other reasons, initiate to pre-carry shipments from the on-hand inventory to optimize the flight. In case of pre-carry, determine what shipments can be pre-carried after coordination with relevant stakeholders. Work on creative solutions to optimize last minute capacity by evaluating minimum connections time (quick ramp/warehouse transfers) 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Process the repair of the offloaded shipments on the first available flight or capacity through ‘Offload booking queue’ as per priority and criticality of the shipment and within the SLA of the department.  
  • Coordinate with the relevant Operational department (IOC/AOCC) to have the bay arrange in close proximity to each other in order to mitigate the impact caused due to misconnection.
  • Monitor and follow up of critical shipments ex DOH (charters, VIP and other sensitive shipments) to ensure FAB.
  • Utilize commercial business acumen to determine shipments which needs to be offloaded based on RM priorities in order to accommodate shipments which are misconnected.
  • Activity manage disrupted bookings on late inbound flights into hub to protect connectivity. In case of misconnection, repair shipments on first available flight as per commercial priority. 
  • Monitor shipment disruption ex DOH for recovery as per protection plan on first available option which can include other gateways, interline and trucking.
  • Process shipments disrupted from achieving FAB by initiating a protection plan. Evaluate and enhance shipment priority based on criticality and coordinate with GHAs warehouse import team.
  • In the event of disrupted MCT, coordinate with GHA warehouse import team to expedite break-down of the affected shipment to ensure it meets its booked flight. If the shipment does not meet the booked flight, repair as per protection plan which may also include other gateways, trucking and interline.
  • Comply with all rules and regulation as per IOC manual and  the applicable business LOPs and SOP.
  • Conduct necessary updates to revise flight booking list, to reflect commercial and operational changes. (e.g. optimize flight in case of drop of loads, repair offloads, commercial escalations, critical/sensitive shipments, and equipment imbalance at hub).
  • Ensure that the shipments that are offered protection plan on constrains flights beyond the Lead optimization recovery window, are communicated to Revenue Management team.
  • Anticipate and communicate with relevant stakeholders to protect disrupted booking (e.g. high show, low show, late delivery by shipper, missed connection).
  • Have a visibility in case of major disruption on a route level at the hub, and proactively alert Revenue Management in case of potential backlog situation.
  • Keep a track of the operational issues prevailing at the hub and inform the IOC and RM Management in case of continuous reoccurrence of the issue which affects the flight performance consistently.
  • Post FBL from RM, any changes that are requested by QAS/HOC needs to review for priority and capacity optimization, and accordingly release revised FBL in co-ordination with all stake holders.
  • Responsible for repairing sensitive cargo (e.g. AOG, DIP, LHO, AVI, VAL, etc) which are impacted due to disrupted operations.
  • Investigates as and when needed for delay and concludes the reason with correct irregularity code.
  • Provide data and feedback to the Line Manager for any irregularities in flight Optimization. Implement tactical as well as strategical course of action to combat potential issue as instructed by Line Manager.
  • Utilise last minute additional capacity due to upgrades. Incase of downgrade create a protection on first available flight or capacity as per  the criticality and priorities of the shipments.
  • Complete shift handover report for next shift with updated critical shipments, actions to be taken, follow ups required and operational performance.
  • Perform other responsibilities as directed by the Management.

Qualifications

  • To be successful in this role you will need to be minimum Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with Minimum 4 years of job-related experience in reputable cargo forwarder, cargo customer service, cargo revenue management or cargo supply chain. As well as, experience in Revenue Management or in another Cargo department (Operations, Sales or Customer Service).
  • You will need to have a sound knowledge of cargo reservation and tracking system, overall cargo operations and set up, and cargo supply chain. You should have an in-depth knowledge in cargo revenue management concept and solid understanding of key stakeholder functions including GHA’s, network stations, cargo operations, IOC, crew control, fuel OCC, flight dispatch, NAVATM, load masters, network planning, charter operations, dangerous goods, cargo compliance, corporate safety and security, cargo sales, customer experience.
