Operations Analysis

The Operations Analysis department helps improve the performance of our operations by developing and implementing standards and goals.

Job overview and responsibilities

United Ops Performance team is responsible to support Network Operations across different functional areas including  flight times, turn performance, delay insights, customer journey, bags, air traffic control, aircraft maintenance and routing, ground time, airport staffing, airport congestion and construction, fuel utilization, irregular operations, etc.

The Manager will lead the Data Products and BI team in India Knowledge Center to design, build and deploy data products including dashboards to United leadership with the goal of enabling better operational decisions that improve on-time performance and customer experience. The Manager will interface with various operational business groups to understand organizational needs and design requirements, presents solutions to leadership, and engage with United leadership to execute on high priority strategic projects. As the Manager, your focus will be to help the team of developers to build complex datasets that drive BI visualizations and help our operational leaders to go from data to insights quickly and drive performance.

This person will oversee complex projects and go from concept to launch working closely with operational leaders and building out product roadmaps and deliverables. This role will require hands-on development work, such as developing backend data layers, maintaining complex queries and generating actionable insights using BI tools.  The manager will work with different internal and external stakeholders on larger projects and provide leadership and direction as we continue to innovate and build advanced data products.

  • Provides leadership to a 5-8 member team with data engineering, technology and BI background
  • Configure backend servers and develop/maintain tables to support data ingestion and transformation process, while ensuring data quality and availability to support operations
  • Build data products including dashboards and mobile reporting products to support Ops leadership on day-to-day functions that helps them make data driven decisions and answer key questions from the eTeam
  • Oversight and leadership on the design, development and implementation for automation workflows across multiple functional areas including Turns and Air Ops performance
  • Build and maintain the "single source of truth" for United's Ops data and ensure data integrity through robust governance process
  • Define, prioritize, allocate resources, track and provide status reporting of work assignments, projects, programs
  • Ability to communicate and share updates with senior leadership, along with experience putting together product presentations

This position is offered on local terms and conditions.  Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded.

Qualifications

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information sytems, engineering, or another quantitative field (i.e. mathematics, statistics, economics, etc.)
  • At least 6 years experience in business intelligence, analytics, and/or data engineering
  • At least 1 year experience in a leadership/supervisory role preferred
  • Expert level SQL skills
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio  and hands-on experience working with massive data sets
  • Intermediate to expert level BI dashboarding experience (e.g. PowerBI, Tibco Spotfire, etc...) to produce meaningful, elegant dashboards
  • Proficiency writing complex code using both traditional and modern technologies/languages (i.e. Python, Spark Node, etc.) for queries, procedures, and final formatted reporting in an email format
  • Experience with HTML, Power Automate and reporting wireframe applications
  • Ability to study/understand business needs, then design a data/technology solutions that connect business processes with quantifiable outcomes

  • Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship
  • Must be fluent in English and Hindi (written and spoken)
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
