Job overview and responsibilities

The Automation and Transformation team is responsible for identifying and driving efficient, innovative solutions through automation. Our core goal is to establish top priority items and produce high quality solutions to achieve maximum benefits aligned with productivity, efficiency and cost targets within the Inflight operation.

The team designs, develops and tests automation workflows and supports the implementation. The Manager position focus areas include, but are not limited to:
 – Leading automation and data analysis efforts working with stakeholders on determining priority, objectives and timeline  
 – Interfacing with all levels of employee groups to collaborate and drive results
 – Proactively seek out opportunities on automation and process improvement for department and field organizations  

A successful candidate will have a programming and analytical background, attention to detail, strategic thinking, strong work ethic and experience in leading employees and motivating team members. Organization, communication and a drive for generating a high-quality output are keys for success in this role. The Manager will lead the 11 member IKC team to provide production of high-quality analysis, efficient solutions via automation and relief of out of place, non-operational support. The Manager will provide this support to stateside United leadership and will report to the Manager of Automation and Transformation. The Manager – Ops Performance and Analytics will interface with various business groups within and outside of Inflight to understand organizational needs and design requirements, presents solutions to leadership and engage with United leadership to identify project prioritization and resource utilization across teams.

  • Provide leadership to a team of 11 including a Senior Developer, Developer, Associate Developer, Senior Analysts, Analysts and Associate Analysts
  • Oversight and leadership on the design, development and implementation for automation workflows across multiple functional areas
  • Ensuring delivery dates are met and appropriate resource allocation
  • Support leadership with oversight of team's analytics and reporting on day-to-day as well as monthly functions
  • Perform ad-hoc data mining and analysis
  • Analyze/review performance data to ensure experiments, new tools or processes are aligned with objectives and are delivering the most business value
  • Design meaningful metrics that indicate operational health and inform operational decisions
  • Define, prioritize, allocate resources, track and provide status reporting of work assignments, projects, programs
  • Develop and strategize on material for high-quality decks, dashboards, tools and reports for Inflight leadership, front-line management and individual business teams throughout the organization
  • Communicate with business partners on roles, responsibilities, processes and deliverables required to ensure effective delivery
  • Continuously interface with various business groups throughout operations to understand organizational needs and provide recommendations on potential areas of focus

This position is offered on local terms and conditions.  Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded.

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Ops Research, Statistics, Logistics/Transportation, Industrial Engineering, Engineering or another quantitative field (i.e. mathematics, statistics, economics, etc.)
  • At least 5 years experience in business intelligence, analytics, and/or software development
  • At least 1 year experience in a leadership/supervisory role
  • Deep understanding of data structures and relationships
  • Familiarity with all parts of the data ecosystem (acquisition, engineering, storage, management, analysis, visualization and deployment)
  • Excel proficiency and data analysis/modelling proficiency
  • Knowledge of multiple systems (operating/integration/architecture) and programming languages and methodologies
  • Management of a team
  • Proven comfort working with massive data sets
  • Proficiency writing complex queries and procedures using both traditional and modern technologies/languages (i.e. SQL, Python, etc.)
  • Data visualization skills using one or more reporting tools (i.e. Spotfire, Tableau, etc.) to produce meaningful dashboards
  • Ability to study/understand business needs, then design a data/technology solutions that connect business processes with quantifiable outcomes
  • Strong project management and communication skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship
  • Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Master's degree
  • Airline experience or knowledge of airline operations preferred
  • Knowledge of airline business and airline operations
  • Exposure to statistical and analytical methods preferred
  • Passion for the airline industry and its complexity and challenges
