Job Description

To lead end-to-end engineering and maintenance related aspects pertaining to propulsion on the Airline’s fleet. This includes managing & leading a team of Propulsion Engineers who are responsible for providing engineering support to the operation and maintenance of the Airline engine fleet and ensuring compliance with all mandatory requirements from the OEM, Airworthiness Authorities and Aircraft Maintenance Program to meet the respective Civil Aviation Authority’s regulatory requirement.

Key Result Responsibilities

Ensure cost effective engineering technical support to the operation and maintenance of the Airline’s engine fleet.

Provide program management of outsourced maintenance and engineering activities. Liaise with Engine, APU and component OEMs and maintenance providers.

Manage the investigation of in-service events, delays and technical problems and implement corrective action programs with the aim of improving engine/ APU and related component reliability.

Manage engine/APU and component modification standards, specifications and implementation. Assess engine/ APU and component Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives and associated EOs. Maintain compliance to all airworthiness requirements as per the respective Civil Aviation Authority.

Review and approve engine work-scopes with maintenance providers. Manage workshop visits, engine removal plans, engine life limited parts (LLPs), spare availability. Oversee workshop performance in is line with agreed standards and terms & conditions.

Provide troubleshooting assistance to Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) when required and review of Engine Health Monitoring Reports and alerts to determine required maintenance action.

Produce business cases and reports for capital expenditure and modification programs. Provide inputs in budgeting process for costs related to repairs, overhaul, maintenance, removal etc.

Assist with reviewing and negotiating contractual terms and conditions with external parties.

Assist in new engine/ propulsion selection & technical evaluation for acquisition of new fleet.

  • Determine, maintain and control the asset value of Engines/ Propulsion at different phases of its life-cycle, considering factors like engine maintenance value, engine core value etc. to support managements decisions to repair/ overhaul, retire engines etc.
  • Assist other sections within Engineering & Maintenance department including Warranty, Maintenance, Planning, MCC etc and other departments including Contracts & Procurement, Legal, QSS etc, with Propulsion related issues.
  • Generate and analyses function-related reports as required and acts accordingly.
  • Manage and participate in special projects as required by management and assist with continuous improvement of technical procedures.
  • Manage and review the performance and progress of the assigned team. Spend time coaching and guiding them, identifies opportunities and plans for their development and technical enhancement.

Qualifications (Academic, training, languages)

  • Bachelor degree in Aircraft Engineering (Mechanical/Aeronautical) or equivalent; alternately a higher diploma or certificate in the relating field from a recognized university or engineering college combined with needed experience and exposure.
  • Holds/has held the corresponding type-rating license or attended corresponding courses is an advantage.
  • Respective training on system of Engines/APU, recommended Airbus 320
  • Project Management, Cost Control, Compliance, Budgeting and Quality Assurance certificates and trainings are an added value and some may be treated as conditional for this role.
  • Capable of using technology systems & tools; proficient in Microsoft suite, MRO systems and Web Search.
  • Excellent in written and verbal communication skills: reporting, presentations, etc.
  • Fluent in English Language.

Work Experience

  • 10 years’ experience in the Airlines industry, 5 years of which in Propulsion/ Engine, with 2 years at least in a similar capacity on a managerial level.
  • Exposure on engines/APUs work scoping &engine shop visit planning and dealing with engines manufacturers, especially on CFM56/5B & APIC/ GTCP 131-9A APUs.
  • Experienced in aircrafts airworthiness programs requirements and regulations, such as CAMO (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization) requirements.
  • Very good understanding of aircrafts planning/maintenance systems and techniques and their relation to the aircraft maintenance program.
  • Exposure to Civil Aviation Authority’s regulations and procedures pertaining to aircrafts importing/exporting, assembly/dis-assembly and Maintenance.
  • Has worked on initiating and drafting commercial contracts and SLAs of engineering technical nature; Has reasonable knowledge and understanding of legal practices pertaining to contracting.
  • Experience in forecasting, budgeting, and monitoring costs
  • Working experience in developing/maintaining effective business relations both internally and externally; Employs technical expertise, and interpersonal relations to support company’s objectives.
  • A good knowledge and exposure on airline and Flight Operations formalities and standard regulations
  • Good exposure in Commercial/Quality Assurance /Safety/Audit functional operations and practices.
  • Demonstrates exceptional work habits; high accuracy and attention to both results and details.
  • Experienced in working efficiently with teams in changing environment and work-load schedules.
  • Proven skills in analyzing data, identifying pitfalls and recommending cost-effective solutions.
  • Cost-oriented, possesses effective negotiation, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to contribute and successfully deliver against business strategy and set KPIs.
