Technical Operations/Maintenance

Technical Operations includes the maintenance, and overhaul of our aircraft. This includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

United's Maintenance & Engineering operation collects mountains of data, including maintenance plans, log pages, task sign-offs, schedule reliability performance, aircraft routing, part availability, and more. The Manager wil be responsible to lead the Tech Ops India Analytics and Business Intelligence teams. The Analytics team needs to partner with business owners to pursue opportunities to improve United's maintenance operations, provide data driven insights and drive innovation through analytics across various tech ops divisons. This role requires not only analytics skills, but also strategic thinking and strong internal/ external client relationships. The Business Intelligence team will be responsible to deliver the right information to the right people in the right format at the right time, all with the goal of enabling better operational decisions that improve United's flight completion rate, on-time performance, productivity, and cost.

  • Manage a team of 8-12 analysts
  • Design meaningful metrics that indicate operational health and inform operational decisions
  • Identify opportunities to improve United's maintenance operations and provide various tech ops divisions data driven insights through analytics
  • Build high-quality operational dashboards and reports for Tech Ops leadership, front-line management, and individual business teams throughout the organization
  • Develop improved analysis methodologies and statistical models to improve forecasts, operational and financial performance, etc.
  • Document the Tech Ops data landscape, maintain an inventory of reports, and plan for report consolidation, elimination, and/or improvement
  • Continuously interface with business groups throughout Tech Ops & IT to understand organizational needs and design solutions, & IT

This position is offered on local terms and conditions.  Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded.

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field like Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required
  • At least 5 years experience in business intelligence, analytics, and/or data engineering
  • Deep understanding of data structures, relationships, and efficient transformations
  • Familiarity with all parts of the data ecosystem — acquisition, engineering, storage, management, analysis, visualization, and deployment
  • Knowledge of predictive modeling, test design, and database querying
  • Knowledge and application of data visualization best practices
  • Proficiency writing complex queries and procedures using both traditional and modern technologies/languages (i.e. SQL, Python, Spark, etc.)
  • Data visualization skills using one or more reporting tools (i.e. Spotfire, Tableau, ggplot2, etc.) to produce meaningful, elegant dashboards
  • Ability to learn what a business team does, then design a data/technology solution that connects business processes with quantifiable outcomes
  • Exposure to JavaScript, D3, HTML, CSS / front-end development
  • Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship
  • Must be fluent in English  (written and spoken)
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative field and/or MBA
  • At least 2 years experience in a leadership/supervisory role preferred
  • Airline experience or knowledge of airline operations preferred
  • Knowledge of UI/UX design principles preferred
  • Experience with the Project Management Lifecycle (PMLC) — taking projects from envision stage through activation preferred
  • Involvement with agile technology development preferred
  • Background integrating data outputs into production-level IT applications preferred
  • Exposure to statistical and analytical methods preferred
