Network Planning

Our many flights need to be planned to perfection. The Network Planning teams design our schedules and routes to connect travelers with their destinations.

Job overview and responsibilities

Ensure that United Airlines Network Planning team has access to state-of-the-art models, data and analytics that will eventually be utilized by planners and schedulers to plan, evaluate and construct schedules. Identify the best data and models to use, build subject matter expertise in the models domain, continuously improve the design and application of these models and work with user groups to ensure models are used to their fullest potential.

  • Partner with technology teams to continuously develop and improve the models used by Network Planning
  • Determine analytical framework for business problems and perform ad hoc analyses as necessary
  • Provide guidance on which improvements to make to existing models and how they are configured and calibrated
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design, build, test, and implement new models, features and datasets
  • Engage with experts and monitor new developments in relevant fields which may be leveraged to improve United's network tools

This position is offered on local terms and conditions. Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded.

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Excellent knowledge of a large array of modeling and optimization techniques and tools
  • Proficient in SAS, at least one high level programming language (R or Python) and SQL
  • Strong mathematical and problem solving skills
  • Data Science and Machine learning experience
  • Must be able to work in a UNIX environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with large cross-functional teams and on projects independently
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship
  • Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Master's degree
  • Quantitative discipline such as engineering, business analytics or math
  • Knowledge of the airline business and/or airline demand and market share forecasting
