The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Aviation Safety Specialist for the Middle East and Africa region to provide prime focus on the Africa region, while reporting to the Global Safety and Regulatory Affairs – Middle East and Africa Leader.

Based out of Dubai, the Senior Safety Specialist will support the Boeing Product & Services Safety organization as a technical liaison between Boeing internal teams and regional regulatory bodies, regional airline customers, and other key aviation industry stakeholders, to promote Boeing product operational safety in Middle East and Africa region. This role will have a key focus on aviation safety enhancements in Africa. The individual plays a vital role in developing, maintaining and enhancing key regional safety relationships. Candidates will also support the integration of Boeing’s various safety enhancing efforts for deployment in the region by partnering and collaborating with stakeholders for the benefit of Aviation safety.

The position will require a significant amount of interaction with people and leadership, including external stakeholders, so excellent people skills and the ability to negotiate and build consensus are required. This position offers the potential to broaden skills and experience across multiple engineering disciplines. The candidate must be willing to stretch beyond their experience base and be willing to take risks to achieve objectives. The job is best suited to an individual who is a self-starter, self-motivated and is able to lead where process definition may not exist or is unclear.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain positive personal and organizational relationships with regional aviation safety stakeholders, airline customers and industry teams working to advance safety activities on behalf of the Boeing Company. This requires interaction with the numerous external organizations, along with other internationally based Boeing employees
  • Provide insight on regulatory and safety policies, regional dynamics and trends in the region to actively promote Boeing's understanding of safety activities, while developing regional insight to safety specific concerns.
  • Develops integrated plans, and establishes and leads cross-organizational teams to respond to regulatory and policy changes and to proactively advocate for Boeing strategic objectives
  • Partner with BCA Enterprise System Safety Core organization on furthering Boeing’s mission of enhancing regional safety as an extension of the Boeing Safety Management System in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Monitor and respond to technical developments including safety, and regulatory issues, while coordinating and developing impact assessments for regulatory policy changes.
  • Occasionally represent Boeing on technical committees and at conferences and events in the region.
  • Occasionally provide critical tactical and strategic support to Boeing Commercial Airplanes and is responsible for key safety, and regulatory developments of significance to the company with/across the appropriate Boeing teams.

Basic Qualifications (Required skills/experience):

  • 5+ years of experience in Aviation Safety critical environment
  • 5+ years of experience leading multi-site groups, overseeing regulatory compliance and interacting with customers and regulatory agencies
  • 5+ years of experience working with aircraft operations/and or aircraft accident investigations
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS)
  • 10+ years of experience in the aerospace industry
  • The candidate must have a record of technical accomplishment, experience in safety related departments, working at/with airlines, regulators and operational safety processes. Demonstrated experience within the safety discipline with regards to Safety Management Systems is critical.
  • Fluency in English is required. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills is necessary.
  • Candidate must be able to travel 30% of the time. Regional travel will be necessary along with occasional travel to the United States.
  • Self-motivated, able to work under consultative direction, has excellent people skills and the initiative to bring projects to completion.
  • Has the ability to negotiate, build consensus, and deliver results as the role requires significant interaction with critical government and airline customer personnel.

Desired Qualifications (Preferred Skills & Experience):

  • Works well with diverse group of people.
  • Fluency in French or Arabic or other regional languages is a plus.
  • Experience influencing and building strong relationships with stakeholders and partnerships.

Typical Education:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience).
