Job Description

As a Senior Engineer – Aerothermal Sciences, you will provide technical leadership of technology programs in development and research of advanced aerothermal systems. Systems include aircraft engines, gas turbines, wind turbines and healthcare equipment catering to business needs of GE Aviation, GE Power, GE Renewables and GE Healthcare. You will interact with technologists and engineers to lead technology programs, develop and deliver novel solutions for complex, multi-disciplinary problems.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Apply your knowledge in aerodynamics/aeromechanics to develop innovative aerodynamic and aeromechanical solutions for GE products, especially wind turbines, aircraft engines and gas turbines
  • Technical leadership of a team on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements, while independently executing tasks leveraging your technical skills.
  • Technical program leadership and project management to deliver and deploy technology solutions to address challenging needs of the business
  • Advanced modeling and simulation, including high-fidelity fluid/structure interaction analyses
  • Develop ideas and concepts to improve aero-mechanical performance and operability of aircraft engine, gas turbine, and wind turbines.
  • Develop and implement hardware for testing and validation, where applicable
  • Network and collaborate with both GE product engineers and with GE Global Research team members to build plans and execute on technical projects
  • Deliver on technical projects with set timelines and cost, implement plans with minimal guidance to meet technical requirements and assure proper documentation of the same

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 8 years of industry or post-doctoral experience, or Masters in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 12 years of industry experience
  • Fundamental knowledge in any of the following areas: turbomachinery aerodynamics / aeromechanics, wind turbine aerodynamics/aeromechanics
  • Experience in using in-house CFD code suite (TACOMA, NPLOT3D) commercial CFD software (ANSYS CFX, FLUENT)
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new, unfamiliar technology areas and to abstract system level concepts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in aerodynamics and aeromechanics
  • Experience in unsteady CFD – URANS and LES modelling and applications
  • Experience in detailed modeling of turbomachinery/wind turbine systems, components, and sub-components
  • Hands-on experience in designing compressors and/or turbines, at various levels of fidelity
  • Experience in performing design trade-off studies and design optimization
