Job Summary

To develop, integrate, implement, and verify technical solutions and compliance documentation compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.

To lead & actively support Stress analysis work packages from Civil & Defence Airframes business predominantly on Wing and Empennage primary and secondary structures using classical hand calculations & FEA. Take ownership on building the team capacity and competencies towards complete analysis ownership responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct stress analysis in support of Engineering project requirements and assist in delivering Stress projects to completion on time, within budget and to the agreed technical requirements.

  • Manage the analysis/stress team and ensure the Design complies with all the customer requirements in the technical specifications.
  • To oversee that all activities are being satisfactorily addressed.
  • To develop technical solutions which are compliant with all relevant requirements, within agreed programs and timescales.
  • To assist Chief Engineers in driving Stress projects to completion on time and to budget. Act as a Point of Contact between India and other GKN sites
  • To ensure design compliance by appropriate analysis in accordance with GKN internal policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • To work in co-operation with other functional areas of the company to achieve local and overall business objectives.
  • To supervise team of engineers, delegating the tasks as necessary with in the team to meet the customer requirements and schedules
  • To undertake own as well as supervise a team to meet the customer requirements and schedules. Maintain and improve quality of deliverables.
  • Ensure all project stakeholders have information at right time.
  • Follow all established export policies and procedures
  • Report any concerns or suspected violations of export control laws and regulations.
  • Follow appropriate quality management procedures for defining technical content and project reporting.
  • Participate in the support of Engineering continuous improvement plans and “Lean” initiatives to develop improved operating processes and procedures.
  • Liaise with internal customers on a day to day basis in order to meet external customer requirements.
  • Work effectively with Outsource Service/Offload providers as required.

Job Qualifications

     Essential Technical Capabilities & Experience:

  • Holds relevant academic qualifications (Bachelor, Master or equivalent) or demonstrable knowledge acquired through experience within analysis environment.
  • 8 to 12 years of experience with strong knowledge of airframe static stress, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis including FEA & hand calculation methods.
  • Holds or can be developed to check / approval status either internally and/or externally.
  • Able to define and substantiate technical design solutions by verifying the structural analysis philosophy using hand calculations & FEA techniques.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of stress analysis techniques and sound Knowledge of Airworthiness Requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of the overall static structural substantiation process from definition of external loads through airframe finite element analysis to final check stress clearance.
  • Sound knowledge of airframe fatigue substantiation including safe life and fracture mechanics techniques.
  • Able to execute/check finite element modelling methodology, interpret results and generally design assure the model output.
  • Have strong working knowledge of available bespoke software techniques. Hypermesh, MSC Nastran, Patran, ISAMI, NASGRO, SIMCENTER 3D.
  • Able to produce stress calculations and / or integration activities with minimal or no guidance.
  • Has an appreciation of loading, and can express loads in the form of Shear Force, Bending Moments and Free Body Diagrams.
  • Define and analyse the results in order to satisfy the Certifying Authorities and Chief Stress Engineer of the structural integrity of the components and structures designed by the company.
  • Strong experience in Metallic, Composite, Linear & Non Linear Static, Fatigue analysis.
  • Added advantage with working knowledge of Automation tools like VBA, Python and AWK.
  • Support through coaching, on the job training and making recommendations for formal training.

     Knowledge of PLM tools such as WINDCHILL.

  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of Lean Principles and is able to demonstrate this in their approach.
  • Capable of leading an internal technical review.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude for mentoring; passing on knowledge through day to day activities
  • Capable of preparing / presenting a Preliminary Design Review (“PDR”) / Critical Design Review (“CDR”) Technical Review.
  • Able to act under own initiative within defined functional procedures / governance.

Desirable Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience in aerospace metallic and composite parts using classical hand calculations and finite element method.
  • Hand-on experience in Nastran, Patran, Simcenter3D, Hypermesh, ISAMI, NASGRO
  • Added advantage with working knowledge of Automation tools like VBA, Python and AWK.
