Job Description

Synopsis

As a Senior Manager, Emergency Response Planning (ERP), you are responsible for developing, managing and maintaining a corporate emergency plan for Etihad Airways’ worldwide operations, to ensure all contingency measures are catered for.  This includes recruitment and hiring of specialist management staff; recruitment and selection of an emergency response “Go Team”; development and delivery of training programs; design, implementation and management of emergency facilities; design, development and evaluation of emergency exercises.   The position is required for regulatory compliance (IOSA; ICAO Annex 13; GCAA CAR-OPS) and to develop and manage Etihad’s emergency response capability to an exemplary level of preparedness, in-line with IATA and industry “best practice” standards.
 

Accountabilities

  • Department head for Emergency Response Planning Department including managerial responsibility and accountability for all staffing, budgeting, recruitment, training, contracts, human resource performance management, and administration.
  • Develops, implements and manages emergency processes and procedures to comply with IOSA, ICAO and GCAA standards and other regulatory and company requirements including, but not limited to, the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Oversight for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of Corporate and Station Emergency Plan manuals, including monitoring of system-wide implementation and compliance, and periodic Plan revisions and issuance of same.  
  • Oversight for the design, development and delivery of all Emergency Response training programs, inclusive of online training modules.
  • Oversight for the recruitment, training and activation processes of the (700+ member) Etihad Special Assistance Team (SAT) for emergency humanitarian response.
  • Oversight for the recruitment, training and activation processes of the (120+ member) Etihad Guest Support Group (GSG) for the operational Disruption Management Plan.
  • Manages the Emergency Response Centres (HQ ERC and EAC Backup) and assumes critical role of “ERC Coordinator” to provide command support and guide/consult/advise executive management on strategy and tactics during emergency deployment/crisis response.
  • Manages all external vendor contracts for Etihad’s Emergency Response Planning Department.     
  • Designs, implements and manages emergency exercises and drills, inclusive of both company personnel and external airport, government, and regulatory authorities.
  • 24/7 on-call responsibilities as rotational ERP “Duty Manager”.

Education & Experience

Educated to a minimum level of technical diploma or university degree, ideally within Aviation Management, Human Factors, Safety Management, Business Management or related disciplines.  Commensurate experience may be considered in lieu of advanced education.  Candidate must be fluent and proficient in the English language, to a university level.

Experience:

15 years airline industry experience, with extensive exposure to the operational environment, inclusive of emergency planning and/or crisis management, and with a minimum of 3 years spent in senior management positions.  Project management experience is ideal, preferably with the design and implementation of airline and/or government departmental crisis plans, mass event/disaster response plans, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), or similar.

Preference given to candidates with training in one or more of the following: Incident Command System (ICS), Emergency Preparedness/Disaster Management, Audit/ Quality Assurance, Safety Management Systems (SMS), Aviation Disaster “Family Assistance”, Emergency Exercise Management, or other related coursework.

Training & Knowledge:

Incident Command System (ICS), Emergency Preparedness/Disaster Management, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Trained Trainer, Crisis Communications, and/or related coursework.

Expert knowledge of aviation emergency plans and pertinent aviation regulations is required, along with superior command of English language, excellent negotiating and influencing skills, and conceptual capabilities.  Substantive professional contacts within the international aviation emergency planning, aviation flight safety, aviation psychology and/or Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) fields very desirable.
