Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) is based in Bangalore, India and is engaged in the development and support of advanced aerospace and aviation technologies, products, and services. Boeing Research & Technology-India (BR&T-I) is part of BIETC and is focused on innovating, developing and transitioning new technologies in support of Boeing products and services. We work across the complete product lifecycle of Boeing's commercial aircraft, military aircraft, rotorcraft, space vehicles, UAVs, and advanced vehicle prototypes. We provide innovative support for our current and future products and services, act as global scouts for innovative technologies, and solve our customers' most difficult technology challenges

Boeing Research & Technology-India (BR&T-I) - Materials and Manufacturing Technology Integration (MMTI) team is looking for a Senior Manager to lead diverse teams of Materials, Process and Physics Engineers and Researchers as well Product Life Cycle Management Engineers to support the goals and objectives of the various Boeing commercial programs and defense program related to materials and manufacturing research and implementation. The two primary areas of work for this Senior manager are:

• Manufacturing Technology Integration - Lead the material and manufacturing process specification and qualification for Boeing designed parts manufactured at Boeing supplier locations or at any new Boeing manufacturing facilities in the region. Support Boeing supply chain in the region through the integration of manufacturing technologies into the supply chain and provide consultation and input for supplier recovery. The team works in the following technical areas associated with production processes: composites and composite part fabrication, metals and detail part fabrication, corrosion and finishes, fasteners and assembly processes. The selected candidate should work collaboratively with supplier management, supplier quality and aircraft programs teams on multiple types of issues happening at supplier production facilities and act as the company representative at suppliers and sub-tier suppliers. The support provided by the team must be delivered in a manner that is responsive, cost effective and efficient. As such, the position requires the ability to reach consensus understanding of customer requirements while managing cost and schedule.
• Materials and Manufacturing Research – Lead a team of lab-based researchers in R&D in Chemical Technologies, Failure analysis and Manufacturing who develop novel materials and manufacturing processes. Be responsible for developing and maintaining Boeing’s product standards list in these areas. Work collaboratively with the broader Materials and Manufacturing teams to implement its global strategy. The work focus will be on:
  • Surface Treatments research in areas such as plating, chemical conversion coatings, primers, sacrificial coatings, top coats, etches and activation methods, alternate surface preparation for adhesive strength and sealants
  • Polymer Additive Manufacturing for tooling and aircraft interiors
  • Simulation and analysis methods to support Metals additive manufacturing research
  • Managing, maintaining and upgrading a state-of-the art material characterization and analytical chemistry laboratory to support local Boeing and regional Boeing needs and to support Research and Technology project
  • Defining and driving a collaborative strategy with research institutions and universities in line with the technical roadmap. Pursuing a comprehensive plan to leverage local universities, research laboratories and government labs to enhance research output.

• Acquiring resources for projects and processes. Ensuring that resources are efficiently invested in line with technology roadmap.
• Participating in establishing and administering multiple projects. Championing the development of, approve and execute the detailed project plans, providing sustained technical guidance to the project teams, implementing proper project management methodologies, driving and monitoring execution, assessing the technical risks. Monitoring the budget on a regular rhythm for multiple areas to ensure performance to plan.
• Developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, academic institutions, government labs and direct reports to ensure the team supports research and production needs at both Boeing and supplier production facilities. Interfacing with stakeholders in Boeing procurement and quality organizations and Boeing Suppliers to ensure M&P support.
• Providing oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes for design teams in Boeing India and supplier locations.
• Being personally accountable for the team's safety.

Basis Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Engineering or Science degree in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy or similar appropriate degrees.
• 15+ years’ experience in aerospace, automotive or related engineering and research functions in application areas such shop floor processes, materials, fabrication and assembly process development/qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in managing an engineering or research team.
• Experience in research and development of new products or process improvements with challenging affordability targets

Desired Skills

• Experience as a leader of a multidisciplinary effort for the implementation of a new product, technology, production process or material improvement
• Knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following aerospace areas: manufacturing, fabrication, production control and quality assurance
• Experience in some of the following subject areas: chemical processing, additive manufacturing, polymers, material testing/analysis
• Experience in Boeing design and build processes, and with Boeing material (BMS) and process (BAC) specification.
• Experience in interacting with internal and external stakeholders, customers, engineering and production personnel and engaging with cross-functional teams
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 15 to 20 years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Master 13 to 18 years' related work experience, 10 years' related work experience, etc.).
