Job Description

The Senior Manager of Fuel, Renewables and Airport Charges is responsible for leading a team that will execute the Category Supply Chain strategy, deliver cost transformation and ensure the consistent supply of safe, high quality fuel to meet the operating needs of the Group.    

Etihad spends a significant amount on Fuel and Airport charges annually. Negotiations with our supply partners involve a high degree of complexity, requiring expert influencing skills, exceptional internal and external stakeholder management, and a sound understanding of corporate finance principles, infrastructure planning and Airline Operations.

At Etihad, we’ve committed to halving our 2019 net emissions level by 2035 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050, twice the CORSIA target. The projected pathway towards net zero will require significant investments in efficiency and innovation as well as regulatory change. To truly make sustainability a reality in aviation we need to look at the biggest contributing factor: Fuel.  We see it as our responsibility to take ownership and drive outcomes, ensuring we make a contribution to take the organization forward.  To that end, this role plays a critical part in driving innovation and change towards energy efficiency and decarbonization, together with our supply and business partners.

Accountable for all Procurement activity within the category portfolio, managing category teams to develop category plans, sourcing strategies, delivering sourcing initiatives through to contract award & post contract management / supplier relationship management. Personally leads & delivers high value/complex projects.

To be successful in this role you will have a strong leadership presence, delivering against challenging cost and operational criteria that has a meaningful impact on business wide financial performance.

Accountabilities

  • Accountable for all Procurement activity within the category portfolio, delivering sourcing initiatives through to contract award & post contract management / supplier relationship management.
  • Review, challenge and enhance Category Strategies, including demand analysis, work scopes / specification challenge, supply market analysis, market innovation opportunities, Local Content requirements, savings targets and commercial approaches, with close end user liaison
  • Work with category teams and business departments to develop and maintain Category Demand Plans, ensure plans are monitored and updated to track expiring contracts and new requirements
  • Manage category teams in the development and execution of Sourcing Strategies, ensuring all relevant sourcing levers and commercial options are applied using suitable procurement channels, with Local Content fully considered & using financial analyses/Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Guide Category Managers in the development of negotiation strategies and lead commercial discussions for high-value and strategic projects
  • Ensure teams maintain accurate Contract Documentation and system records fully reflect all relevant work scopes and commercial terms, utilizing standard contract types where possible
  • Guide Category Managers in effective Supplier Relationship Management, participating in relationship management for strategic vendors. Review and facilitate category teams and business users in Contract Performance Management actives ensuring relevant tools and systems are used to record performance
  • Manage and develop Category Teams, guiding and supporting capability development
  • Lead the development and execution of our Renewables strategy

Education & Experience

  • Degree level qualification preferred, CIPS or other relevant qualification/certification desirable
  • At least 15 years functional experience including senior PSM roles, a minimum of 5 years relevant Category Management activity (including Aviation or Direct Operating Costs )
  • Substantial experience managing large procurement teams with complex workloads and competing priorities
  • Expert influencing, communication and negotiation skills, demonstrating the ability to influence and persuade senior stakeholders and build effective ongoing relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Experience leading multiple complex high value negotiations, advising and coaching negotiation teams
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing large teams, establishing and running cross functional project teams and delivering outcomes in a time sensitive environment
  • Expert level understanding of category strategy development and its alignment with overall business goals and strategies
  • Demonstrable commercial expertise with a clear understanding of the drivers affecting the business
