Technical Operations/Maintenance

Technical Operations includes the maintenance, and overhaul of our aircraft. This includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more

Job overview and responsibilities

Provide Engineering technical support during heavy maintenance checks for the United Airlines worldwide fleet of aircraft for (OSV) Outside Service Vendor facilities. Engineer will be responsible for designing structural repairs and developing technical data for aircraft repairs, modifications and writing repair instructions for Maintenance. Engineering support will include, performing technical engineering substantiations through complex engineering analysis by hand and computer software programs. Investigate maintenance problems during base maintenance and initiate corrective actions to return aircraft to service in a timely manner. Provide engineering assistance to maintenance consisting of technical data research, process development, and procedure clarification and direction necessary to maintain continued airworthiness of the aircraft. Provide technical support for base maintenance aircraft to ensure timely return to service. Engineer will author and continually evaluate/improve UAL engineering processes and procedures. Position requires occasional overtime and some weekend support.

  • Authors and approves repair instructions and procedures. 
  • Develop substantiating data for aircraft and equipment design / repairs through knowledge of aircraft operational characteristics, materials, and processes
  • Provide technical guidance to other engineers.
  • Responsible for the investigation, root cause analysis (and development of a solutions) for chronic aircraft issues.
  • Coordinates extensively with other United operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, warranty liaison, operational reliability, and efficiency.
  • Interfaces with industry, regulatory and/or governmental agencies to establish policies and procedures as required.       

This position is offered on local terms and conditions.Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded.

Required 

  • Successful candidate must have 5-8 years of working experience, designing repairs, and writing repair instructions for aircraft in heavy check maintenance environment.  Candidate must be able to provide technical support for base maintenance aircraft by designing and developing technical data for aircraft repairs and modifications.                                                                                                                    
  • Ability to interpret complex and technical Engineering and OEM documents and perform technical engineering substantiations through complex engineering analysis by hand and computer software programs. Effective communication skills to provide engineering technical support for the United Airlines worldwide fleet of aircraft in a heavy check maintenance environment.                                            
  • Boeing/Airbus Structures I course or industry equivalent.
  • S. Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace), related technical field or equivalent relative work experience

Preferred

  • Completed Boeing/Airbus Structures courses I, II, and III.  Completed Composite training class or industry equivalent and have a working knowledge of structural and composite repairs. 
  • For Maintenance Program Engineering prefer airframe and powerplant License
  • Experience providing technical support during maintenance, to include repair and modification issues for Structures, Systems, Interiors and Avionics. Investigate problems during maintenance and initiate corrective actions to return aircraft to service in a safe, airworthy condition in timely manner.
