Job Description

Are you looking for the next step in your Engineering career in Vestas Power Solutions the cornerstone of Vestas?

Vestas Power Solutions is where new product ideas and technologies are developed, matured, tested, and improved. To put in short, Vestas Power Solutions is the cornerstone of Vestas - we are shaping the future of modern energy. By encouraging a culture based on accountability, we give employees the chance to create meaningful, real-world impact through their work. We also cultivate employee performance and success by providing an inclusive, motivating environment with collaboration at its core. You will experience a team of great diversity both within competencies, experience, gender, and nationality.

Power Solutions > Aerodynamic & Mechanical > Hub Module > Hub Structure

Aerodynamics & Mechanical is a part of Vestas Power Solutions, which is the cornerstone of Vestas. Through innovation, development, and continuous product improvement we develop the products and technologies that reduce the cost of energy and bring the highest possible value to our customers and to Vestas. The Hub Module is a part of Aerodynamics & Mechanical and is fully responsible for the competences, modularization, specification, design, and documentation of the hub in the full lifecycle in the full value chain. This includes design and analysis from the early concept study for new turbines to the final specification for production. Additionally, we are also looking ahead to verify new technologies such that these can be part of future turbine project.

Within the Hub module, the Hub Access & Integration Sub-Module holds the end-to-end ownership and responsibility for the development of structural components, while also considering accessibility and integration aspects. Working with these components requires multiple competences, such as knowledge of DFMEA, FEA modeling, bolted connections, composite materials or manufacturability, while maintaining a full value chain perspective.

Our team is international and spread across sites in Denmark, India and Portugal. The team supports each other and takes great pride in developing the best solutions. We live by the Vestas values: Accountability, Collaboration, Simplicity and Passion, which form the backbone for our culture of striving for world class

Responsibilities

Your tasks will continuously vary in complexity and nature, but will mostly focus on new product development. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Be the team's facilitator for Failure Mode Analysis (i.e. DFMEA).
  • Verify design for functionality, performance, reliability (including lifetime estimates of the design), quality and cost. Clarify design requirements with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Deliver documentation such as verification reports, DVPRs or risk assessments.
  • Work closely with product certification (ex: DNV or other certification bodies). Maintaining a closed quality loop, supporting on structural root cause analyses and evaluating non-conformity requests, making sure that the relevant learnings are captured in the future designs.
  • Collaborate with and coordinate stakeholders across the value chain (internal and external). Maintain and improve verification tools and methods. Generate creative solutions to design opportunities.
  • Balancing technical aspirations and commercial goals and constrains to continuously improve the value creation towards our internal and external customers. To assess the constant issue of designing larger and more complex wind turbine structures, you'll also be expected to bring a spirit of innovation and healthy skepticism with respect to the way we plan and implement our work, as well as to the sustainability of our products.
  • Above all, you'll be expected to work and act as part of a team, sharing knowledge, achievements and failures as part of one unit.

Qualifications

  • Sc. within Mechanical/Structural/Civil/Aerospace engineering
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience within ideally all of the following: Experience in facilitating D-FMEA or generic FMEA / product development knowledge. Design, development and optimization of innovative (metallic or composite) mechanical components. Knowledge of composite materials. Requirement engineering. Product life cycle management. Value engineering, Systems engineering certification.

Competencies

To be effective in this role, we expect:

  • Commitment to propelling the boundaries of the state-of-the art in Wind Turbine development and prioritization and focus on value creation towards our customers during component deployment.
  • Knowledge of metallic and composite materials and their properties, as well as manufacturing methods. Ability to handle stakeholders, define requirements and follow up on verification activities. Enthusiasm for working with complex engineering problems and a creative approach to new opportunities. Proactivity, taking pride in initiating and improving technology development projects through a large organization
  • Additionally, we also expect that you:
  • Do well as a part of a team and that it comes naturally for you to collaborate and share knowledge. Identify yourself as result oriented, creative and have good sense of responsibility. Have the patience to listen, understand and respect your colleagues. Have good communication skills and are fluent in English (speaking and writing)
  • It is an added value if you have some of the following too:
  • Experience in structural assessments using FEA (preferably Ansys - Workbench, APDL and ACP). Experience with 3D-CAD design/models, 2D drawings and bill of materials based on design specifications (using Creo or similar software). Knowledge of Wind Turbine Loads. Knowledge of bolted connections. Experience with HSE assessments. Experience within other large corporate organizations or knowledge of Agile development methodologies and tools (e.g. Scrum).
