Position Overview

Boeing India Engineering is currently looking Associate Engineer- Repair Engineering -Mech-Hyd Systems & ECS to join their team in Bangalore, Karnataka. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) and Boeing Global Services (BGS) business organizations.

A successful candidate will understand the importance of collaboration and shall work with the Engineering Manager, Project lead & Aerospace Mechanical Design and Systems expert to develop or optimize the designs, engineering process, analyze the supplier quality issues, support the development of cutting-edge technologies and digital initiatives. The position requires flexibility to address emergent issues and important airline meetings off-hours and may require off-shift work schedule.

Position Responsibilities:

  • This position is primarily to support Systems Service Engineering – Mechanical-Hydraulic systems, Environmental control systems issues real-time, including general systems questions, short to medium term problem resolution, long term issue description and proactive fleet guidance, including working with operators to recover Airplane on Ground (AOG) situations. This can involve coordination over the phone to troubleshoot an airplane halfway around the world, to being on on-site with the operator to return a grounded airplane back to revenue service, all while utilizing the latest Boeing tools, technology, data analytics, and real time fleet monitoring data.
  • Flexibility to address emergent issues and important airline meetings off-hours and may require an occasional off-shift work schedule to support the fleet operating 24/7/365.
  • Provides technical, design and informational support for basic production, product support or in-service issues.
  • Troubleshoots basic system problems consistent with operational protocols.
  • Supports analysis definition and verification of basic requirements.
  • May modify basic requirements based on defined requirements using approved processes and tools.
  • Supports and/or creates and provides basic technical documentation (e.g., fleet team digest articles, service letters, drawings, specifications, documents, data sets, design folders, test requirements documents, manuals) in accordance with engineering.
  • Processes and procedures for internal reference or external delivery.
  • Assists with the study and assessment of technology development by gathering data, supporting testing and documenting findings.
  • Supports review of technical design, analysis, and production by reviewing documentation, participating in design reviews, and observing tests and audits to ensure compliance.
  • Assists with the investigation of problems to provide engineering design disposition of discrepancies.
  • Supports and/or leads the research of technical, operational and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer.
  • Assists in designing and/or providing analysis of interim and final engineering solutions to return airplanes to revenue service.
  • Works with and possibly directing cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analysis and develop dispositions for complex design non-conformance's.
  • Assists in the development of customer correspondence for continued safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assists in solving problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle.
  • Requires strong experience in commercial aircraft flight control requirements, in service issues as part of repair engineering, MRO process, Root cause and corrective actions, understand spoken and unspoken customer expectations.
  • This position will be responsible for coordinating and communicating regularly with team members in Boeing organizations and shall provide periodic update on project progress, quality metrics, project summaries, and other related documents.
  • In this role, the Engineer will work independently or with minimum supervision to come up with conceptual and detailed designs based on the requirements. And Pro-actively seek information and direction to successfully complete the statement of work.
  • This position will participate and support initiatives of Boeing India organization related to engineering excellence, employee development, customer engagement etc.
  • This position will be located in Boeing India Engineering and Technology Center, Bangalore, India.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical or equivalent disciplines.
  • 6-9 Years of relevant Work experience.
  • The SE role requires application of engineering principles to research technical, operational and quality issues reported by airline customers, as well as determining interim and final engineering solutions, and responding to airline questions and reported problems through internal and external communication. The SE will be able to assess event reports for potential safety issues, troubleshoot airplane problems using airline provided information, on-line engineering data, partner and supplier data, maintenance publications, and MyBoeingFleet.The SE will also be able to develop and manage projects to resolve in-service issues, develop presentation materials and present information on in-service issues to various review boards, management meetings, and airline forums, as well as participate in support teams and Technical onsite assistance at airline location.
  • The SE will be an integral part of supporting all Boeing Commercial Airplane models in-service and development, including programs such as 747, 767, 777, 787, 737NG, 737MAX, 777X, and the next generation of commercial airplanes.
  • Experience in Hydraulic System Design & Analysis, structural design, mechanical design, Flight controls, DFX (X- Manufacturing, Assembly, Optimization etc.,), Certification process, Development and Verification of Aircraft systems towards certifications etc.,
  • Experience on system integration, integration challenges, cross-functional dependencies and conflict resolution of requirements and design solutions
  • Experience in Processing of AOG, Critical, and Routine Service Requests (SRs) to provide resolution of technical issues to airline operators.Processing of SDRs to provide fleet corrective actions as needed for manufacturing quality escapes.For SRs and SDRs, determination of Continual Operation Safety Program (COSP) reportability for Safety Review processing and determination of any safety concerns.Depending on capability and capacity, the work may include project management of predictive/proactive projects or economic Service Related Problems (SRPs).Travel for AOG tech assists will be minimal but possible where travel requirements are met and the SE has the right capability to support. Must support written and over-the-phone technical discussions with the customer and coordination with the Operations Center Integration Team (OCIT), the Flight Controls Service Engineering team, and the Flight Controls Design Engineering teams. Review of prior SRs, available service documentation (i.e. AMMs, FIMs, CMMs, SLs, SBs, FTDs, etc.), installation and component drawings, and flight data can be involved in order to develop the technical solution.
  • Experience of Spares engineering investigation and in-service issues.
  • Able to perform independently or with limited guidance from SME or tech fellow. Should able to lead small teams as communication focal, planning, estimation, scheduling and reviewing the deliverables.
  • Perform with positive attitude and highest ethics.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working with customers on technical or business issues.
  • Aerospace related experience in manufacturing, fabrication or assembly processes and procedures, or experience during a project at school or during an internship.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
  • Experience in a role that required strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to verify accuracy of technical and non-technical data. Gathers relevant data for root cause analysis and produces changes to resolve the discrepancies in design packages.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional team. Must be willing to work flexible hours (early or late as needed) to interface with Boeing personnel around the world.
Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 6 to 9 years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Master+ 5 years' related work experience etc.).
