Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide safe, expeditious and orderly operational air traffic control (ATC) services; deliver on the job training instruction; carry out currency checks and conduct examinations to ensure ATCOs perform to the required level of competence in accordance with the applicable CARS and SARPS.

Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Provide safe, orderly and expeditious area control services, flight information services and alerting services in a specific area of responsibility

• Conduct assessments of trainee ATCOs to identify the level of competence and performance against required standards and set objectives

• Provide suitable on the job training and monitor progress against objectives in order to report on the level of competence achieved

• Conduct initial examination, renewal and reissue examination and currency checks of qualified ATCOs to support the timely management of the licensing process

• Develop and maintain a knowledge and verification question bank for the unit to ensure changes in regulations and local procedures are captured in a timely and efficient manner

• Support unit management in delivering air traffic control services as per scheduled roster and in compliance with the ATSOM and regulations

• Monitor the serviceability status of equipment essential to the provision of air traffic services and report to the ATC Supervisor

• Report failures, potential risks and safety hazards via the appropriate reporting platform

• Report any unusual occurrences and incidents as and when they occur to operational management, and to the regulator via the appropriate reporting platform

• Promote and support the implementation of the ANS Safety Management System within specific areas of responsibility to ensure that safety remains primary to the delivery of Air Navigation Services

• Stay up to date with the changes to equipment use and operating systems for necessary compliance

• Maintain an appropriate professional demeanor in providing air traffic control services to all concerned parties and ensure administrative rules pertaining to conduct in the operational area are adhered to

• Perform any additional tasks that may arise from time to time to meet operational and organizational requirements

• Safety responsibilities and accountabilities of this position are detailed in the Safety Management Manual of the organization. The Job holder is required to maintain awareness and knowledge in relation to their safety responsibilities associated with their job function"

Technical Competencies

Educational Qualification:

• High secondary school certificate

Professional Certifications:

• Aerodrome Control (ICAO 052) required

• Validation of Aerodrome control ratings

• Current Class 3 aviation medical or equivalent required

• ICAO Level 4 English Language proficiency required.

• Approved ATC Examiner course

Experience:

• 5 years' operational controlling experience in validations at an equivalent airport

• 2 years' OJTI experience
