Job Description

The Customs Clearance Supervisor is responsible for the smooth running of the customs clearance operation. He is responsible for managing the work rosters and supervising the work performed by the clearance department in order to achieve the performance standards set by local management and yet ensuring that the regulatory requirements and customer instructions are complied.

Support the Customs Clearance Manager in leading and managing GST Helpdesk to attend Customer Query with related to Customs Clearance process and GST related issues to ensure that DHL’s Clearance process are in line with market-leading standards.

Responsibilities:

• Understand and comply with the regulations and guidelines issued by the customs agency or other government agencies supervising import and export activities
• With the consent and approval of DHL management, participate and support Customs & other government agencies in their compliance, control/intervention or education programs
• Collaborate with Customs Clearance Manager & Clearance Supervisor, evaluate customers’ complaints (GST Helpdesk) and ensure that they are dealt with expeditiously and satisfactorily
• Liaise and negotiate with internal & external providers (e.g. EDI operators, software vendors, ITSC) to ensure that systems are operating at an optimal level without major disruptions to the service level quality
• Demonstrate a good understanding of DHL’s service product offerings and must be able to advise customers on an appropriate service product that will match the customer’s requirements
• Advises customers on trade compliance matters in order to ensure that their shipments clear customs with minimum delays and that they comply to the customs regulations and laws, and promote DHL as the partner of choice for customs clearance
• Handle GST related escalation and communicate with customers about issues to resolve
• Provide commercial teams with customs advice and new product development as when needed to support revenue growth, and promote DHL as the partner of choice
• Demonstrate flexibility to support adhoc changes that may occur during shift operations in order to meet the operational demands and to maintain a high service quality
• Understand and comply with the requirements from other Gateways and Hubs
• Demonstrate an awareness of the procedures, policies and requirements of the affected DHL departments concerned and the impact of clearance activities or output on these departments.

Requirements:

• Minimum Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years of experience working in customs clearance matters within the logistics, international transportation or brokerage industry is required
• Customs certification on Import/Export trade or brokerage related subject is preferred
• The role is required to perform shift work.
