Job Summary

To develop, integrate and implement technical solutions and compliance documentation compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.

To execute stress analysis in support of Engineering project requirements for Airframe business predominantly on Wing and Empennage, secondary structures related civil & military aerospace products and their components and in support of the development of existing and new products/ structures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Carrying out Stress analysis calculations to assess design solutions for a whole range of tasks, potentially from concept and structural development to certification, including modifications.
  • Supporting the structural design process to ensure required quality is achieved within direct area of responsibility.
  • Develop, implement, and check technical solutions and compliance documentation to ensure they are compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Interfacing with adjacent work packages or sub-assemblies.
  • To assist Lead/Senior Engineers in driving Stress projects to completion on time and to budget.
  • To ensure design compliance by appropriate analysis in accordance with GKN internal policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Produce structural or systems documentation including requirements specifications, safety documentation, qualification reports, stress reports.
  • Identify and assess technical risk for own work and propose mitigations within assigned programmes/projects.
  • Perform all activities at a level of minimal supervision and support other engineers with peer-to-peer reviews.
  • Identify improvements and support the creation of work instructions, procedures, technical manuals, and guidelines.
  • Understand the qualification process of products, and prepare compliance documentation to internal, customer, and regulatory requirements, where applicable.

General

Job Qualifications

  • Must possess the requisite level of engineering functional knowledge with experience of working/interfacing with other Engineering & Manf. Eng. disciplines (including customers and suppliers) in order to successfully execute tasks within the project team(s) objectives.

 

  • Must possess basic knowledge and understanding of the Aerospace industry and in the functional area the project/programme is responsible for (eg. Design, Analysis, EWIS, etc.) in order to successfully perform tasks in the programme.
  • Must possess a good level of technical problem solving skills.

Essential

  • Holds relevant technical qualifications (Bachelor, Master or equivalent) or a relevant level of experience to perform the stress engineering tasks.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience with strong knowledge of airframe static stress, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis including FEA & hand calculation methods.
  • Sound knowledge of the overall static structural substantiation process from definition of external loads through airframe finite element analysis to final check stress clearance.
  • Sound knowledge of airframe fatigue substantiation including safe life and fracture mechanics techniques.
  • Sound knowledge of Airworthiness Requirements.
  • Working experience on creating stress justification reports and related stress hand calculations in consultation with Check/Approval signatories.
  • Have strong working knowledge of available bespoke software techniques. Hypermesh, MSC Nastran, Patran, ISAMI, NASGRO, SIMCENTER 3D.
  • Able to execute/check finite element modelling methodology, interpret results and generally design assure the model output.
  • Strong experience in Metallic - Linear & Non Linear Static, Fatigue analysis.
  • Added advantage with working knowledge of Automation tools like VBA, Python and AWK.
  • Knowledge of PLM tools such as WINDCHILL.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency.
  • Support or generate test specifications/plans and/or alternate means of compliance (analysis/similarity) as required to demonstrate design solution complies with certification requirements.
