Job Summary

This is an engineering position within Manufacturing Engineering function to support process planning activities of Aero Engines/ Aero structure divisions of GKN Aerospace. This position requires strong manufacturing engineering knowledge of metallic manufacturing processes with keen understanding on aerospace Industry trends. Should be representing GKN Bangalore in global method development team (Measurement System Analysis and Process Control areas of APQP).

Provide Manufacturing Engineering capability to operational and development Programs to enable and deliver zero defect projects utilizing engineering and problem solving skills. Accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.

Job Responsibilities

General

Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards.

  • Responsible for the development of technical solutions to complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers and suppliers.
  • Deliver technical support of manufacturing process development and integration for production.
  • Utilize root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
  • Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
  • Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
  • Support in developing competencies such as Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Process Control (PC) by training/coaching/mentoring engineers.
  • Capture engineering/manufacturing requirements using Manufacturing drawings, Manufacturing Work Instructions, Routing Sheets, Specifications, Standard operating procedures, Material definitions, Bill of materials and special Process Instruction
  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams, Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, Control plan etc. compliant with AS9145 and AS13100.
  • Perform MSA/Process Control studies and guide team.
  • Promote standardized way of working across sites by documenting and propagating best methods and practices.
  • Establish processes and systems to work efficiently between India and other GKN sites.

  • Develop methods in compliance with APQP/ Zero Defects and deploying them across GKN sites.
  • All tasks undertaken will be addressed in line with defined ME procedures, to achieve challenging targets.
  • Develop and sustain process planning support competence from India.
  • Focus on upskilling individuals and plan training needs.
  • Support management in recruitment and resource utilization.
  • Responsible for the implementation of materials & process methods and solutions, from original concept through to production.
  • Deploy these processes with a high degree of process capability utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite to demonstrate as such.
  • Responsible for technical support of manufacturing development and integration for production. Resolve issues pertaining to vendor quality.
  • Provide specialist knowledge to production activities with the ultimate goal of improving efficiency, product quality and the reduction of non-conforming parts.
  • Drive performance and Knowledge sharing & handle training
  • Ensure necessary delivery infrastructure ( including IT)
  • Report any concerns or suspected violations of export control laws and regulations.
  • Reporting Problems or Deviations associated with Environmental Issues and the EMS/OHS to MR.

Essential

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering or equivalent
  • Must have 8-12 years manufacturing experience in a production environment particular experience in metallic machining preferably aerospace industry.
  • Must have 2-3 years of hands on experience in MSA or Process Control.
  • Good coaching/mentoring skills along with proficiency in Aerospace standards such as AS13003/AS13006.
  • Machining experience with super alloys, Aircraft grade aluminium or composites.
  • Very good understanding of basic metal cutting principles and knowledge on effect of material properties and various cutting parameters on machining.
