Job Description

Who we are

We are a start-up start-up based out of Bengaluru & Delhi NCR. We are engaged in development of next generation missions and technologies (NGM&T) towards future warfare needs of the Indian Defence forces. It is undertaking research towards enhancing persistence and autonomy for unmanned vehicles and robotic swarms. NRT’s product development portfolio includes a solar power stratospheric high altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) unmanned platform and an air/ground launched stand-off autonomous system.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Accomplish and support activities involving the propulsion system design and development of UAVs in the conceptual and detailed design phase.
  • Initial sizing calculation of propellers for given operational requirement and evaluate the aerodynamic characteristics using computational methods.
  • Perform CFD analyses of propulsion systems of UAVs to evaluate aerodynamic performance estimation and carry out the design trade off studies.
  • Design and development of propulsion systems and optimization of propulsion systems at component level.
  • Fluid volume extraction from CAD geometry, good quality mesh/grids generation and appropriate solver case setup followed by post-processing the results and documenting the same in detail for flow simulation with limited time frames and resources.
  • Suggest the design changes in order to meet the given propulsion requirement to the team based on the generated results.
  • Optimize the design using the  Multidisciplinary optimization tools and evaluate the system performance.

Desired Skills & Knowledge:

  • Good functional hands-on knowledge in internal and external flow physics to predict aerodynamics characteristics of rotary components.
  • Deep understanding of Propeller fundamentals like Blade element theory, vortex theory.
  • Ability to perform preprocessing, solver setup and post processing requirements using CFD to mimic the flow behaviour of propellers.
  • Ability to interpret the flow physics observed based on the CFD results and validate the same with the theoretical computations and experimental results.
  • Hands on experience in performing constraint analysis, sizing the external geometry and estimating performance characteristics.
  • Good fundamental knowledge of structural integrity of part level and assembly level.
  • Prior experience in optimisation studies of flow and structural components.
  • Prior experience in the performance evaluation of IC engine and jet engine would be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge and prior work experience on handling the Multidisciplinary Optimization tools and objectives.

Must have strong fundamentals in the following areas:

  • Blade aerodynamics and structures
  • Aerodynamics/Fluid Mechanics/Thermodynamics
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics

Software Skills:

  • Preprocessing : Solidworks, Catia, DesignModeler, Spaceclaim
  • Meshing :  Ansys mesher/ICEM CFD
  • Solver : Ansys CFX, Fluent
  • Post processing : CFXpost or any other similar open source software
  • Low fidelity tools : QMIL/QPROP, XROTOR
  • Scripting language : Python/Matlab

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum relevant experience of 5 to 7 years.
