Job Description

 As a Senior Combustion Aerothermal Engineer, you will collaboratively lead and execute gas turbine combustion technology, research & development programs for aircraft engines and power turbines. You will interact with personnel at GE Research, Aviation & Power to develop and deliver novel solutions to accelerate decarbonization and sustainability, aligned with GE’s goals of leading energy transition and shaping the future of flight.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities

  • Apply your knowledge in combustion aerodynamics and heat transfer to develop innovative aerothermodynamic solutions for GE Aviation and Power combustion
  • Responsible for advanced modeling and simulation for combustion aerothermodynamics, including high-fidelity CFD analyses, with opportunities for in-house code development
  • Develop ideas and concepts, and mature technologies through various readiness levels (TRL), to improve combustor aerothermal performance
  • Deliver on technical projects meeting schedules and budgets, implement plans with minimal guidance to meet technical requirements and document results
  • Lead and contribute to a project on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements, while independently executing tasks leveraging your technical skills
  • Network and collaborate with GE Aviation, Power and Research team members to build plans and execute on technical projects

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering specializing in Combustion, with at least 8-12 years of experience in industrial research or post-doctoral research OR M.S/M.Tech in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering specializing in Combustion, with at least 10-14 years of industrial research experience
  • Demonstrated fundamental knowledge in gas turbine combustion, evidenced by advanced graduate coursework and research
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in Combustion Modeling, Simulation & Analysis (expertise in two or more of the following: LES, fast chemistry, combustion kinetics, flamelet generation manifolds, thickened flames, flame holding/flame speed/flashback mechanisms)
  • Experience with commercial software (FLUENT, CFX) or in-house code development; especially handling large datasets, and associated post-processing to provide physics-based insights to guide design
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Design experience and/or code development in combustor aerodynamics & heat transfer, at various levels of fidelity
  • Expertise in UG-NX, FLUENT Mesher & complex mesh generation (Voronoi-based mesh generation would be a plus)
  • Advanced CAD & CFD skills and owning processes from “start-to-finish” (geometry manipulation, mesh generation, post-processing, and optimization studies to provide physics-based insights to guide design)
  • Research in Hydrogen & Ammonia Combustion
  • Application of Machine Learning for Combustion, High-performance computing, Experience w. GPUs
