Job Summary

To lead & actively support Design work packages from Civil Airframes business predominantly on Wing and Empennage primary and secondary structures. Take ownership on building the team capacity and competencies towards complete design ownership responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support Design Lead in the coordination of tasks, monitoring and reporting on delivery performance for the Design Office.
     Create and update detail for assembly drawings, incorporating engineering change notes, achieving delivery to time cost and quality.
         Incorporate upgrade modifications into the drawing set and provide design solutions.
         Develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements within agreed programmes and timescales.
         Proactively liaise with internal contacts to report progress and ensure tasking is completed to the correct specifications, time cost and quality.
         Follow appropriate quality management procedures for defining technical content and project reporting.
         Participate in the support of Engineering continuous improvement plans and “Lean” initiatives to develop improved operating processes and procedures.
         Liaise with internal customers on a day to day basis in order to meet external customer requirements.
         Work effectively with Outsource Service/Offload providers as required.

Job Qualifications

  •      Holds relevant academic qualifications (Bachelor, Master or equivalent) or demonstrable knowledge acquired through experience within a design environment. 
  •      10+ years (indicative) of relevant experience gained within an engineering discipline, ideally within an aerospace environment and in multi-disciplinary engineering project teams (Design/CM,  EWIS, Analysis, M&P, Manufacturing/ Industrialization)
  •      CATIA V5 Proficient (Part Design, Assembly Design, Drafting, Generative Shape Design and Aerospace Sheet Metal workbenches)
  •      Holds or can be developed to check / approval status either internally and/or externally. 
  •      Able to act under own initiative within defined functional procedures / governance.
  •      Acts in developing and mentoring people for Technical Approval.
  •      Demonstrates the ability to develop major assembly drawings and schemes and concept layouts.
  •      Demonstrates the ability to determine means of technical compliance.
  •      Strong understanding of Lean Principles and is able to demonstrate this in their approach.
  •      Capable of leading an internal technical review.
  •      Demonstrates the ability to work from first principles.
  •      Demonstrates an aptitude for mentoring; passing on knowledge through day to day activities
  •      Capable of preparing / presenting a Preliminary Design Review (“PDR”) / Critical Design Review (“CDR”) Technical Review.
  •      Demonstrates an appreciation and understanding of costs of materials and processes.
  •      Capable of being technical representative representing the business at a customer / supplier JDP.
  •      Assessment of a job size and tasks and the ability to report on progress and budget.

Desirable Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  •      CATIA VBA scripting or automation skills.
  •      Experience in aerospace composite parts design or manufacturing.
  •      Hand-on experience in CATIA CPD work bench
