GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited is a joint venture company promoted by the GMR Group (63%) in partnership with Airports Authority of India (13%), Government of Telangana (13%) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) (11%).
GHIAL was mandated to design, finance, build & operate Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) as a world-class Greenfield airport on the Public-Private Partnership model. The project was envisaged as a synergistic ecosystem with Hyderabad International Airport as the core, surrounded by an Airport City.
Hyderabad Airport was commissioned in a record time of 31 months and inaugurated on March 14, 2008. Currently, the Airport handles ~21M passengers and ~148,000 tons of cargo annually. It serves 17 International destinations through 21 international and 3 Indian passenger carriers. It also has 8 domestic carriers operating to around 53 domestic destinations. Additionally, 5 cargo airlines operate freighter services.
Today, Hyderabad Airport is rated as one of the best in the world. It has also been consistently rated among the best airports, having been ranked as Global Top 3 airports in 5-15 M passengers PA category for 9 consecutive years by Airport Council International (ACI) – Airport Service Quality (ASQ) passenger survey and as World No. 1, Four times.
As a leader in technology and innovation, Hyderabad Airport is at the forefront of leveraging technology to deliver an enhanced experience to travelers. It is the only airport in India to have a digital passenger processing system.
It recently emerged as the 5th largest airport in India (domestic passenger traffic) and 6th largest airport overall. To meet this growth in demand, RGIA has embarked on a large scale expansion to increase its capacity to around 35 MPPA.
With a vision to become the engine of economic growth for the State of Telangana, GHIAL is currently developing Hyderabad Airport City, an integrated ecosystem with Theme/Port-based development zones.
