A Decade Full of Opportunities in Indian Civil Aviation

Indian Civil Aviation is already speeding up to reach the third spot in the world’s largest air passenger. Cargo traffic in recent years has seen growth too. Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet, Vistara, Go First, AirAsia India are the names that don’t need any introduction. Tata Sons winning the bid of Air India, the National Carrier of India is going to change the history of passenger satisfaction in the airlines. Currently, Air India provides flights to over 70 international and 100 domestic locations.

With Akasa Air inaugural in Indian airspace, we are going to witness a huge increase in air travel. The revival of Jet Airways will definitely fulfil the dreams of millions. More than 65 non-scheduled aircraft operators are contributing to the growth of this industry.

“Regional Connectivity Scheme – UDAN or Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik” did steal the show in the 26th Jan parade. Ministry of Civil Aviation through open sky policy targets the increase in connectivity and improvement in infrastructure with a vision to promote trade and tourism.

Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) organizations like Air India Engineering Services Ltd, Air Works, Indamer Private Ltd, Deccan Charter, Taj Air, Bird ExecuJet, GMR Aero Technic Limited, Max MRO Pvt Ltd are contributors of greater revenue with the global standard of excellence.

With all the good news flying around, many will dream of getting a job in this marvellous and challenging industry. The lavish lifestyle of pilots, aircraft engineers and crew members attract everyone’s attention. Most of us just want to travel across the world.

Golden era in Indian Civil Aviation

In the era of extreme globalization, people are preferring one of the most efficient and time-saving methods of transportation.

A competitive environment in the aviation industry benefits the customers in terms of luxury, comfort and entertainment. Even the digital India campaign has provided ease of ticketing along with offers from various tours and travel agencies.

Air travels is not just a luxury anymore, it is a necessity for students with the dream to study overseas, employees willing to work in foreign countries, parents visiting their NRI children.

Air travel long has been the dream of the lower middle class or lower-class people; now with many airlines targeting these potential flyers, their dreams are becoming reality. Meanwhile, civil aviation in India is expanding in the number of aircraft, airstrips, airports, airlines, passengers, cargo and JOB OPPORTUNITIES.

Since the launch of the first UDAN flight on 27th April 2017, RCS-UDAN Scheme has significantly contributed to growth and employment. RCS-UDAN has provided connectivity between under-serviced and unserved regions. Several airports, heliports are now in operation that provides common people with affordable options for air travel.

The Indian government has a plan to invest US$ 1.83 billion for the new airports as well as aircraft. Studies in 2018 reveal that nearly 620 aircraft are operated in India and it will grow to 1,100 planes by 2030.

Will I get a job if I pursue education in aviation?

The aviation industry provides tremendous growth opportunities for a smart workforce. People are welcome to join this industry which has various job profiles such as:

  • Aircraft pilots
  • Flight instructors
  • Cabin crew
  • Aircraft maintenance engineers
  • Air traffic controllers
  • Technicians
  • Flight dispatchers
  • Ground staff,
  • Security staff,
  • Ticketing executives,
  • Baggage handlers, and many more.

People with qualifications starting from the 10th and 12th standards can also do well in different job profiles.

Commercial Pilot License, Airline Transport Pilot License holders and Aircraft Maintenance Holders are ruling the aviation industry.

People with management degrees, engineering degrees can also work as a part of the Airport Authority of India.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is approving various training organizations so that the huge demand for a skilled workforce is satisfactorily fulfilled.

Aircraft pilots

Pilot is a dream job, probably the most desired one in aviation. They fly passengers or cargo in aeroplanes and helicopters to domestic or international destinations. An aircraft is operated by two pilots mostly; one being the pilot in command and the other is supporting the pilot.

One must have Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) to work as an airline pilot. A degree or postgraduate qualification is not mandatory. After passing intermediate or (10+2) one may join a pilot training organization.

Pilots are paid a handsome salary by most of the airlines in the industry.

Flight instructors

These are the people who train trainee pilots to fly an aeroplane or helicopter. Pilot license holders after a certain number of flight hours become eligible to work as a flight instructor. They are certified by DGCA in India as Assistant Pilot Instructor (API), Pilot Instructor (PI) or Chief Flying Instructor (CFI). It requires a lot of experience, dedication, medical fitness to work as a pilot instructor.

Cabin crew

Almost every flyer knows this job profile. People know them as an air hostess and flight steward. They provide pilots instructions to the passengers and take care of passenger safety and comfort.

Many cabin crew members get a job after completing their training from a reputed organization like Franklin. The basic qualification for this course is intermediate or (10+2) passed from any recognized board.

Aircraft maintenance engineers

An AME takes care of aircraft and engines in the aviation industry and mainly deal with maintenance, repair and overhaul. Aircraft Maintenance Engineers have long been the backbone of the aviation industry.

– Engineering, Quality Control and Operations department of airlines,

– Non-Scheduled Operator’s permits holders (NSOP),

– Flying Training Organizations,

– Aircraft Maintenance Type Training Organizations and

– Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) are only a few places that await AMEs.

Young talents are always welcome with a promising future.

Aviation will see huge growth in air travel in this decade. A skilled workforce will be a continuous demand in future. Training organizations for pilots, cabin crew, aircraft maintenance engineers are being established to cope with the increased demand for a skilled workforce. Up and running training organization eyes on increased capacity for the future need.
