Uses of programming languages in Aviation 2022

Programming languages are now the basic needs of every software. Every day the world is progressing at a high speed and the contribution of such languages is of utmost importance. Some people ask me “can I enter the aviation industry from the CSE, IT branch ?” So for such people, the answer is yes you can because programming languages are used in the Aviation Industry.

Aviation itself is one of the best thing humans made, the introduction of programmed machines and systems gave it a new boost. Well, there are quite a few programming languages used in the aviation industry.

Let me be very clear that every system in an aircraft is not related (in terms of functionality)to each other. Every system has a separate function and programming is used for particular systems only (you will know this better if you are an aviation student mainly aeronautical, aerospace or AME). Now you might wonder what programming languages are used in the Aviation industry. So let’s take a look at the various programming language used:

Get familiar with Python

Python is one of the top programming languages used within aerospace engineering. Python is more versatile and useful for any tasks that don’t require Simulink. If you’re breaking into the aerospace industry with a background in computer science or computer engineering, you’ll have great experience working with Python.

The application of Python in CFD & Computation fields has picked the higher momentum in recent years. Python is being asked as a mandatory skill in most job postings related to CFD & computational engineering. In recent years python is the most flourishing programming language and applications are unfathomable.

C++ can give boost to your career

When you progress in CFD simulations to a higher level, you need to write your own code. These codes are hooked to Fluent as User Defined Function (UDF) in Fluent. It is written in C. Programming language of Arduino used in UAV/drones is merely a set of C/C++ codes.

Apart from these, if you know C++ coding you can make custom made software that could save the time required for manual calculations in the design of propulsion systems. The software can reduce the manual work required to do tiring iterations.

MATLAB and Simulink

Simulink allows you to model and simulate a variety of aerospace systems. These example models illustrate aerospace applications. Suppose Aerospace Block set when modelling aerospace systems in the Simulink environment. Aerospace Block set extends Simulink, enabling you to model, simulate, and analyze aerospace vehicle dynamics. You can incorporate vehicle dynamics, validate models of the flight environment, model pilot behaviour, and then connect your model to the Flight Gear Flight Simulator to visualize simulation results.

MATLAB provides a better analytical interface and this can help you and can keep you a step forward in the aviation industry.

FORTAN programming language

FORTRAN was designed for scientists and engineers and has dominated this field. For the past 30 years, FORTRAN has been used for such projects as the design of bridges and airplane structures, it is used for factory automation control, storm drainage design, analysis of scientific data, and so on. The demand for this programming language is high in the UAV industry. To know how to make your career in the UAV industry click here.

Ada

This programming language is one of the oldest in the world. Ada is still in use today, The language spec has been updated and modernized several times. Ada is an internationally standardized, general-purpose programming language used in a wide variety of applications – from missile control to payroll processing to air traffic control.

Well, are you a Computer science, IT, computer applications, etc graduate? then do not hesitate to step your foot in the aviation industry. The Aircraft manufacturing companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Airbus uses such professionals to develop their technologies. Not only manufacturing companies but airlines sometimes also hire programmers.

The aviation industry is huge, and there is a lot of scope for aviation professionals and many other applicable branches. For more interesting blogs and verified aviation jobs follow Aeronefs.
