A Journey of Dornier-228 to become Hindustan-228

26 March 2022, was a milestone for not only Indian aviation as well as the country that are on the journey to a better and safer Aviation Environment. There are so many companies are in the league far ahead from Indian state-owned company HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) and the aircraft Hindustan-228 or Dornier-228, which got their interest for the commercial market, which was earlier manufactured only for Indian defence. This will be a great step from the Indian Govt. to the Indian aviation environment. There are a lot of reasons to explain, but It will lengthy.

By 2020 it was a not fair run for the Aviation industry, the economy was getting weaker due to so many reasons, and countries started to ignore global warming, maybe because Greta got herself busy with some other matters to handle. Since the covid-19 strike everything got shut down people stopped travelling also aviation might see the worst year of the decade. Since vaccination started people found themselves safer to roam again to travel. The events like Wings India 2022 encourage people to travel and also motivates aviator to keep the Airworthy spirit to its optimum.

Dornier-228 aircraft was designed and manufactured by DASA, which is Dornier GmBH now. It is a German company that stopped the production of Do 228 in 1998. The HAL brought the production license to till date HAL has produced more than 125 aircraft in India which is serving in different defence academy like Indian coast guard Indian Air Force etc.

At WINGS India 2022

From date 26 march 2022, most of the delegates were interested in the Hindustan 228, because for the current scenario this aircraft is most compatible for all types of operation ranging from commercial Schedule transport to aerial services, reasons are very simple, it’s small size, cheaper maintenance, and high-performance characteristics.

Aircraft configuration is a high wing, non-pressurized, fitted with Air Conditioning, seating capacity ranging from 14- 19 passengers, fitted with Two Turboprop Honeywell Garret TPE engine. Makes it STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) for paved and unpaved runaways. The aircraft received positive statements from its IAF pilots, as the maintenance crew acknowledge its low maintenance requirement.

Why it is a Milestone

Dornier-228 is a compatible aircraft that can be used by any operator it will also open many opportunities for the aviator as well as for the business personnel who have interested to try the schedule airlines business. Indian Govt’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik ) scheme will be most compatible with short-range flights. India has a population of more than 125 Crore population, where less than 0.5% percent fly. Govt. planning to increase the flight route to 1000 which will open so other opportunities along with aviation such as tourism, medical services, etc.

Career

Hindustan-228 can play various roles in the Indian aviation industry, from selling and manufacturing aircraft to providing training and approval to the shops. The industry itself as maintenance, as a pilot, as a passenger, is a good deal. Soon there might be a chance manufacturing zone will increase will create a lot of career opportunities for aviator acquaintance.

Career opportunities might range from aircraft engineer of manufacturing and Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) holders to aircraft maintenance engineer. The underdeveloped countries might found Hindustaan-228.

Alliance Air received its first aircraft for operation. Soon might receive more.

Future of Dornier-228

It might feel amazing, Wing India 2022 got an opportunity for future projects, since aviation emission was a prime concern for most of the developed countries. ZeroAvia the leading zero-emission made a collaboration with HAL. Hindustan-228 is getting an STC with a hydrogen Powertrain, which is zero-emission technology. Hindustan-228 will use ZeroAvia ZA600 commercial type Powertrain which will give 600kW without emission (in late October 2021, ZeroAvia and RTHA [Rotterdam The Hague Airport] announced a partnership with the aim of establishing the world’s first hydrogen-electric international passenger route, using 19 seat aircraft such as HAL’s 228).
