Aviation can be more fun with Air Sports

The Ministry of Civil Aviation is promoting the Growth of Air Sports. There are many sectors in the air sports industry, Now that the government is promoting, people can make their career out of it. Perhaps, also represent our country on international platforms. In fact, the IOC is thinking of introducing it in future Olympic games.

On 1st January 2022, The Ministry of Civil Aviation has released a notification specifying the needs and importance of Air Sports. The name of the notification is National Air Sports policy 2022(NASP 2022). The notice contains all the information needed by the Air Sports Enthusiasts.

What is Air Sports ?

Air sports, as the name suggests, encompasses various sports activities involving the medium of air. These include sports like air-racing, aerobatics, aeromodelling, hang gliding, paragliding, paramotoring and skydiving etc. The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland is the world governing body for air sports. Founded on 14 October 1905, it sets standards, organizes events and maintains global records.

How Air Sports can Benefit us ?

NASP 2022 is a beneficial policy for Air Sports professionals. One can make their career in it. They may do business that can attract a lot of tourists and hence can make a good amount of money. Many government bodies hire professionals to train their employees and other members. Air sports also include drones that are in high demand click here to know about drones. A person may pursue their career in it and may represent the country in various international competitions. Moreover, there will be growth in tourism and can therefore enhance a country’s economy.

The key vision of the National Air Sports Policy are:

  • Promote air sports culture in the country.
  • Adopt international best practices in safety including but not limited to, air sports infrastructure, equipment, operations, maintenance and training.
  • Develop India as a preferred global hub for air sports.
  • Develop a simple, stakeholder-friendly and effective governance structure.
  • Enhance participation and success of Indian sportspersons in global air sports events.
  • Promote design, development and manufacturing of air sports equipment in India in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

Government’s initiative to educate on Air Sports

The youth of India represents the future of air sports. Programs aimed at raising interest and a career in it will be encouraged. Schools, colleges and universities will be encouraged to have it included in their curriculum as well. Students will be encouraged to participate in FAI’s international competitions conducted periodically for children in different age categories. Aeromodelling and drone sports will be promoted at schools and NCC. Support shall also be provided for boosting innovation, research and entrepreneurship in air sports via targeted programs to aspiring sport aviators.

Air Sports Federation of India

ASFI shall be an autonomous body under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. ASFI shall provide governance over all aspects of air sports including but not limited to, regulation, certification, competitions, awards and penalties etc. It shall conduct promotional events and competitions across the country through the different air sports associations. ASFI will be chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation. Joint Secretary (SDIT Division). Ministry of Civil Aviation will be the Member Secretary. In short, AFSI will conduct all-sports competitions in India
