5 Greatest Aircraft Accidents of All Time

In a recent aircraft accident on March 21, a Boeing 737 plane carrying 132 passengers crashed in China’s Guangxi province. This area of China is a forest region the crash of the aircraft not only lead to the death of 132 lives but also caused a forest fire.

There had been many aircraft accidents and incidents in the history of the aviation industry, so it would be impossible to consider them all, So here you will find only a few accidents in aviation. Before going deeper into the blog, I have observed that people confuse between accident and incident. Tenerife Airport Disaster

On March 27, 1977, KLM and Pan Am flights, both Boeing 747 passenger jets, collided on the runway on the Spanish island of Tenerife. With 583 fatalities, the accident has changed aviation drastically and improved safety standards. The accident occurred due to a mutual misunderstanding during radio communication and low visibility due to weather conditions.

The aircraft accident had a lasting effect on the aircraft industry. The primary cause of the accident was ruled that the Captain of the KLM aircraft misheard his clearance to take off from the Air Traffic Controller. JAL Flight 123

The Japan Airlines flight crash that occurred on August 12, 1985, is single-handedly the accident with the most fatalities. Unbelievably, 520 people on board the Boeing 747 died due to an explosion due to decompression caused because of an incorrectly repaired aft pressure head. A safety promotion centre was opened to alert employees about airline safety and their responsibilities. 

The aircraft crashed into the mountains of Ueno Village killing all the passengers except four who were seriously injured. The aircraft was destroyed. The crash site was in a forested area, and a temporary path was constructed to carry out resume operations as well as investigation. The probable cause of the incident was an improperly repaired pressure bulkhead. This was one of the worst aircraft accidents that involved a single airliner.

Iranian Air Force Ilyushin II-76, 2003

In 2003, an Ilyushin Il-76 carried members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, a special force unit that is independent of the Iranian Army, on an unknown mission when it crashed into Kerman, Iran. The flight was carrying 275 people on board. None of the occupants of the plane survived. Poor weather conditions resulting in loss of contact with the ATC (Air Traffic Control) is believed to be the reason that was arrived Investigators the reason for this aircraft accident.

Investigators concluded that the airplane lost contact with the air traffic control after entering an air zone of inclement weather. There are also speculations of how it could also have been a terrorist attack since few terrorist organizations claimed responsibility for the crash.

Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 

Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed within six minutes of its take-off from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on 10 March 2019. The aircraft slammed into Earth about 40 miles away from the airport at a speed of around 700 miles per hour. All 157 people in the plane were killed.

Following this accident and the lion air flight 610 accident, the US Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing grounded all 737 Max aircraft to fully investigate the flaws in its designs, correct wiring issues, and repair the flight control system. Pilots were also provided additional training. 

Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501, 2014

According to the report released by the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee, the causative agent for the incident was the stalling of the aircraft due to a malfunctioning rudder limiter which eventually led to the aircraft going out of control and crashing into the Java Sea.

The search mission was huge and it involved the participation of vessels from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, South Korea, China, and the US to name a few. Three months of the intense rescue operation were carried out and only 106 bodies could be found. This aircraft accident leads to the loss of 162 lives.
